Context

A debate has emerged over the Great Nicobar Island Development Project, with Congress MP Jairam Ramesh disputing Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s assertion that the project is primarily strategic. He argues that the initiative is largely commercial in nature, while its strategic justification has been overstated.
