Why in News?
Persistent flooding across eastern Assam has claimed 41 lives, causing extensive damage to settlements, agriculture and public infrastructure.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA):
- A statutory body constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
- Responsible for disaster preparedness, mitigation, emergency response, relief, rehabilitation and coordination of disaster management activities across Assam.
Disaster Management Act, 2005:
- India’s primary legal framework for disaster management.

Flood Plain:
