Slovakia
Context: The Prime Minister of India is scheduled to pay an official visit to Slovakia from June 14 to 16, 2026. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Central European country since Slovakia became an independent nation following the peaceful breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1993.

- Slovakia is a landlocked country located in Central Europe with a rich historical and cultural heritage. For centuries, it formed part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and later existed as part of Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1992.
- Following the Velvet Revolution of 1989, which brought an end to communist rule, Slovakia emerged as an independent republic on January 1, 1993. Today, it is a highly industrialized economy and an increasingly important partner within Europe.

- Drainage and River Systems: Most of Slovakia’s rivers are part of the Danube River basin, connecting the country to one of Europe’s most important waterway networks. Rivers such as the Váh and Hron play a vital role in irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and transportation.
