Greater Tunb Island

- Location: Greater Tunb is situated in the Persian Gulf, close to the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. Owing to its location, the island holds considerable geopolitical and military importance.
- Strategic Importance: Iran has exercised control over Greater Tunb since 1971. Its proximity to one of the world’s busiest maritime chokepoints makes it a key strategic asset.
- Disputed Islands: Greater Tunb is one of the three disputed islands in the Persian Gulf. The other two are Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa.
